L'espèce est répandue de l'Afrique Centrale à l'Afrique du Sud, formant 3 différents taxa : la sous-espèce nominative décrite du Kenya (C. simplex simplex Warren, 1902) qui vole en Afrique de l'est, la ssp. C. simplex viridicilla Fletcher, 1978 décrite de Tanzanie et qui vole en Afrique australe, et la ssp. C. simplex rubropunctata Fletcher, 1958 qui se trouve en Afrique équatoriale et qui a été décrite à partir d'un mâle (holotype) collecté en Ouganda au Ruwenzori : Ruimi Valley.</p> <p>Détermination et nominative C. stillata stillata Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875 a été décrite de Côte-d'Ivoire (Bingerville) à partir d'une femelle. L'espèce est répandue dans une grande partie de l'Afrique, de Sao Thomé à l'Afrique du Sud. Hormis la sous-espèce nominative, elle présente deux autres sous-espèces : C. sitllata mirabiliaria du Cameroun (la photo) et C. stillata modesta Herbulot, 1962 propre aux Iles Aldabra. Dans son catalogue des hétérocères d'Arabie Saoudite, E. P. Wiltshire mentionne l'espèce de Makkah, d'Abha (Shalaby) et de Muhayil mais figure (p.122 - n° 116) un spécimen en provenance d'Ethiopie. Comostolopsis rufocellata Mabille,1900, considéré comme sous-espèce malgache de C. stillata (Janse,1933, mais aussi Viette, 1990), a été élevée à un rang spécifique (Scoble, 1999) et est endémique à cette île. La chenille de C. stillata a été obsevée sur des Celastraceae (Maytenus heterophylla).</p> <p>Identification confirmée par 3 femelles collectées et examinées.</p> <p>Détermination et commentaires de
